Lesson 4: Scientific Modeling


Students describe characteristics of scientific models, including graphs. They create a scatterplot that includes a line-of-best-fit, and interpret the relationship between the tree growth data they collected and precipitation and temperature data over a 24-year period.

Students will be able to:

  • Identify different types of scientific models and how they can be used.
  • Create and analyze a scatterplot graph to interpret the relationship between tree growth and precipitation, and the relationship between tree growth and temperature.
